Homeware Brand Alert : VITA Copenhagen

because we love anything Scandi

If you’re into homeware, you should already know about VITA Copenhagen. Their EOS lighting range has taken the interiors industry by storm, popping up all over stores (2000 globally!) and praised by the media. It comes as no surprise that we wanted to try one of their products for ourselves and see what all the fuss was about. So, we tried their EOS mini feather table lamp (congrats to the lucky Laura who won it in our Style Files competition!) and quickly understood why they have become so popular. Intrigued, we wanted to know a little bit more about the brand so we spoke founder Soren Ravn Christensen to get the low down…

What is the concept of the brand?

VITA copenhagen’s brand values are to be simple and sincere- the key to a brighter future. The lamps are created with a focus on aesthetics, simplicity and functionality and can all be flat packed for stress-free delivery, transit and application. In our pursuit for beauty and sustainability, we seek the harmony and distinction of the Nordic landscape. Our designs are deeply rooted in the diverse urban landscape and raw nature surrounding our home in the pulsating heart of Copenhagen, Denmark.

How would you define VITA Copenhagen’s style?

In our pursuit for beauty and sustainability, we seek the harmony and distinction of the Nordic landscape. Our designs are deeply rooted in the diverse urban landscape and raw nature surrounding our home in the pulsating heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. Each individual product has a different story. With highly versatile fixtures many pieces can be positioned as suspension lights or as tripods to adapt to the mood of the room.

“The idea behind Mineheart is to create a playground for creativity and discovery, where art meets design, and poetry meets industry. We try to inject a sense of wonder into everyday objects and spaces around us, telling stories and creating things that are truly surprising,” Brendan Young

What are your most popular products?

The VITA Eos range is our most popular. The ‘Insta-famous’ light draws its focus and mesmerizing beauty from the earth tones of the Nordic landscape. Made from all natural goose feathers, these unique lampshades give a soft, warm light and add a sophisticated and elegant touch to any interior décor. Creating the EOS was extremely difficult as it was a completely new design and material no one else had thought about before, the design made VITA copenhagen the leading feather lamp manufacturer in the world.

What is the design process or sourcing process behind your products?

We use efficient flat packaging, recyclable materials and re-purposing of by-products. The latter is the case of our goose feathers used for our popular VITA EOS feather lamp, all feathers used are a by-product of the food industry. Goose feathers that would otherwise be burned are instead sanitised and repurposed thus diminishing the environmental impact. None of our goose feathers are derived from live or mistreated geese. We are also inspired by the Nordic landscape, where Architects, interior designers and developers have been using VITA copenhagen lighting in their projects for their ease of ordering, delivery, great design and affordable prices.

How did VITA Copenhagen come to be?

After several years of concept developing and decorating galleries, nightclubs, bars and restaurants, I have spent the last 9 years developing and improving on sensible, affordable and timeless new Nordic designer lamps. Like many of my previous projects, VITA copenhagen was sparked by the obvious potential of making affordable Nordic lighting for the designer happy people seeking good products that normal people can afford. All VITA lamps are packed in compact gift boxes to optimize worldwide logistics and storage costs, thereby reducing the environmental footprint on our planet.
