The Style Files No. 11

Holly's home is making us jolly

This week we’re speaking to Holly Booth. We stumbled across her IG account and couldn’t help but feel inspired by the Scandi shots of her beautiful home and lifestyle. So you guessed it, we decided to speak to her about her homely space and how it came to be…

…To tell you a bit about Holly, she’s a product photographer based in Derbyshire who works with independent makers, designers and shops across the world. She lives with her fiancé and french bulldog Remi. They also have a tiny mischievous house cat called Juno who joins them in their Victorian terrace home..

What was the process for designing your home?

We didn’t really set out with a plan in all honesty – when we bought the house just over six months ago, we knew we wanted to get one room sorted so we had a space to enjoy whilst we worked on the rest of the house. The living room didn’t need a lot changing so it seemed like the best place to start – we painted the chimney breast and by introducing furniture we already owned, it soon felt like ours. It’s such a bright room but we wanted to make sure it still felt cosy in the evenings, we also wanted to fill this space with artwork and decorations from lots of independent makers and designers which helped introduce pops of colour into the space.

How would you define your style?

I’m a big fan of Scandi style in general (isn’t everyone)! I tend to keep things quite simple, and I love lots of light, monochrome and plants. However, I do also have a love for 70s furniture and decor and so this tends to creep in a little bit. I work as a photographer and stylist, so this tends to transfer over into how I lay things out in my home.

  1. What would be your advice to someone who wants to create a home like yours?

I think you just have to trust your own style and go with it! It won’t be to everyone’s taste, but as long as you love it that’s all that matters. I try to make sure any new piece of furniture or decor works with the other things we already own – and just have fun with it, we’re always changing or moving things around, and the house is a project we’re going to be working on for a while so I’m looking forward to seeing how it evolves over time.

Whats the inspiration behind your home?

It’s a Victorian terrace and luckily we have all the original fireplaces, and some period features still – we wanted to make sure these were still part of the style of the house and that the pieces we brought in work with this. I find a lot of inspiration on Instagram, I love seeing how other people are renovating their homes and take notes of things I really love – much to the annoyance of my other half! I’m always coming up with new things I want to try out (currently trying to convince him we should paint all of the dining room dark grey..)

If you could only own one homeware item what would it be?

My love of 70s style decor is linked to my Grandad who had a bright orange living room when I was little – he also seems to collect chairs and this has definitely been passed onto me! He owns a 60s/70s ‘Rocket Lamp’ which is a large floor lamp with teak tripod legs and orange glass. It’s one of my all time favourite pieces and I’ve loved it since I was young!

Money no object, where would your dream home be?

Oh that’s a tricky one! We do have a soft spot for Paris as those stunning apartments with high ceilings and views over the city are a dream.
